Kellum Hall officially housed its last students at Florida State this past spring. The hall opened 56 years ago in 1959. To give some context, Kellum Hall opened the year of the first Grammy awards, when Fidel Castro took power, and when Hawaii and Alaska became part of the United States.
Dave Sagaser, Associate Director for Facilities at Florida State said the building “would need a total renovation to remain a viable student housing option.” The building is not being renovated but “…is scheduled to be demolished during the fall of 2015” said Sagaser. The building housed 538 men and women each, that’s over 30,000 students in the building’s lifetime.
So what is going up in place of Kellum Hall? Sagaser said “the future use of the space is currently under review.”

But a State Supreme Court judge in Manhattan acquitted the two men of the top charge they faced: first-degree gang assault.
The defendants chose to have the judge, Maxwell Wiley, decide their cases rather than a jury. On Tuesday morning, after a three-week trial, Justice Wiley found the detective, Wojciech Braszczok, 34, guilty of second-degree assault, coercion, riot and criminal mischief. But he rejected the most serious charges, gang assault and first-degree assault, saying the prosecution had not proved the detective shared the intent of the other attackers to hurt the victim.

One day, Korzybski was giving a lecture to a group of students, and he interrupted the lesson suddenly in order to retrieve a packet of biscuits, wrapped in white paper, from his briefcase. He muttered that he just had to eat something, and he asked the students on the seats in the front row if they would also like a biscuit. A few students took a biscuit. “Nice biscuit, don’t you think,” said Korzybski, while he took a second one. The students were chewing vigorously. Then he tore the white paper from the biscuits, in order to reveal the original packaging. On it was a big picture of a dog’s head and the words “Dog Cookies.” The students looked at the package, and were shocked.
Two of them wanted to vomit, put their hands in front of their mouths, and ran out of the lecture hall to the toilet.
